A princess, a transgender person, a furniture businessman, military generals - these are just some of the figures in the huge cast of actors in Asia's heady election season.

Thailand, Indonesia, India, the Philippines and Australia are all going to the polls in the coming weeks. One fifth of humanity will be making a choice. To keep you up to date, the Asia Desk is launching a weekly round-up of the latest developments.
