Dear Reader

In February 2018, a teenager fled from Taiwan and later admitted killing his pregnant girlfriend while in Taipei. It set in motion a chain of events that has resulted in 21 weeks and counting of protests, often violent, in Hong Kong. Chan Tong-kai, now 20, was released from prison on money-laundering charges last week and while he has said he is willing to return to Taiwan and face justice, how to get him there has ignited a political squabble between Hong Kong and Taipei. Meanwhile, we meet three other teenagers risking their futures on the front lines in Hong Kong. Read our stories below and follow our continuing coverage on scmp.com.
